Let me introduce Passless.net: ModSquad’s truly free identity provider with Single Sign-On, Multi-Factor Authentication, and biometric passkeys, easy enough for any organization to use. An identity provider is the service that controls who can log in to your work apps, and Passless is easy enough for any organization to run.
We didn’t plan on building an identity product. We needed one to secure a remote workforce with Cubeless, our secure browser, which only works if we know exactly who is logging in. The more we learned, the clearer it became that identity should be a fundamental necessity, not a revenue stream.
So we decided to take that IdP and provide it for any organization as an independent product, Passless.
The identity provider market has three problems, and they compound each other.
The result is that strong authentication ends up reserved for the companies with the biggest budgets and the deepest benches.
The modern service we built at Cubeless depended on one thing: knowing and authenticating the identity of the user. Identity management quickly became one of the critical components of our offering, and it’s where we ran into those three problems firsthand.
In April 2025 we made our identity provider free, with SSO and MFA, because we believe authentication shouldn’t be a premium feature. What surprised us was who showed up. We saw as much interest in our free, easy-to-use identity management from organizations regardless of their remote work needs as from the customers we built the service for.
That told us identity deserved a home of its own, so we split it out.
Passless.net is a standalone, free identity provider. It includes:
It’s designed so any IT pro, not only a security specialist, can set it up and run it.
Passless.net is for any organization that wants strong, modern authentication without an enterprise budget or an enterprise-sized IT team: startups, outsourcing firms, and even non-business organizations such as non-profits and educational institutions.
